Hospitality lighting

Hospitality lighting that creates atmosphere.

From breakfast to late evening: in hospitality the atmosphere changes by the hour. We design lighting with scenes, dim to warm and good colour rendering for restaurants, cafés, hotels and leisure.

Lighting design

Light is part of the experience.

Guests notice immediately when the light is wrong: too bright, too cold or too dark. A good hospitality design works with warm colour temperatures, dimming to warm and light that falls mainly on tables and walls.

With wireless controls such as Casambi you easily set the scenes via an app, without extra cabling.

  • Dim to warm from 3000 to 1800 K
  • Scenes on a timer or with one button
  • Silent, flicker free drivers

Standards

How much light per room in hospitality?

Minimum light levels apply to the kitchen, buffet and workstations. In the venue itself, the atmosphere determines what is right.

Concept

Colour temperature per type of venue.

01

Fine dining and wine bar

2200 to 2700 K, low light level, light on the table rather than in the room. Dim to warm makes the light warmer as you dim.

02

Brasserie and café

2700 K with scenes for lunch and dinner. Fresher and brighter during the day, warm and subdued in the evening.

03

Lunchroom and coffee bar

3000 K, bright and inviting. Accent light on the display case and bar shows off what is on offer.

04

Fast food and fast casual

3000 to 4000 K, higher light level and even light. Fast, clean and clear.

05

Terrace

2700 K, low glare and well shielded. Light on tables and paths, not in the eyes of guests or neighbours.

06

Hotel and lobby

2700 to 3000 K with scenes for each part of the day. Reception slightly brighter, lounge more subdued.

Technology

What makes a good hospitality lighting plan different.

Colour rendering. Food, drinks and skin tones only look good with high colour rendering. We work with CRI 90 or higher and pay attention to the R9 value, which determines how red meat, tomato and wine come across.

Scenes instead of switches. With DALI or Casambi, your staff set the right scene with one button or app: breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks or cleaning. The atmosphere is the same every day, whoever is on duty.

Light on the table, not in the room. Pendants and narrow spots above tables create intimacy without making the whole venue bright. Wall lighting and accents on the bar and back wall add depth.

Kitchen and back office. Here function counts: 500 lux, splash proof (IP44 or higher, IP65 for wet cleaning) and shatterproof luminaires above food, so you meet the hygiene requirements of your HACCP plan.

Energy. Hospitality venues have long operating hours. Switching to LED with dimming and presence detection in toilets, corridors and storage reduces consumption immediately. The investment often qualifies for the Dutch EIA tax scheme.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is your question not listed? Call or email us, we respond within one working day.

Ask your question
Which colour temperature suits a restaurant?
Usually 2700 K or warmer. With dim to warm, the light automatically becomes warmer when dimmed, just like an incandescent lamp.
Can I adjust the scenes myself?
Yes. With Casambi or a similar system you adjust scenes via an app.
Does the kitchen have to meet special requirements?
Yes. The kitchen requires 500 lux, and closed, easy to clean luminaires are advisable. We include this in the plan.
Do you also work for hotels and holiday parks?
Yes. From the lobby and corridors to rooms, terraces and the car park.
What is dim to warm lighting?
Luminaires that get warmer in colour as you dim them, from around 3000 K to 1800 K. Just like the incandescent lamp used to. Ideal for restaurants that move from lunch to dinner.
How do I light a terrace without disturbance?
With low, shielded luminaires that direct light onto tables and paths, 2700 K and limited brightness. Guests sit comfortably and neighbours are not bothered by the light.
Is there a subsidy for LED lighting in hospitality?
Energy efficient LED lighting often qualifies for the Dutch Energy Investment Allowance (EIA). In the quotation we indicate which items are on the Energy List.
